Mike Kayihura Organizes Rwandan Music Playlist for BBC’S Africa 360 | New times

Rwandan singer and songwriter Mike Kayihura, is hosted on a BBC show called Africa 360, where his playlist of 20 Rwandan songs is currently playing on his app and website.

Africa 360 is a BBC Radio program that hosts leading African artists and DJs to showcase their country’s talents. Mike’s hour-long tracklist went live on August 8 and will still be played for an additional 27 days.

In an interview with The New Times, Kayihura shared that he was linked with BBC Sounds by Entertainment Factory and created a playlist of Rwandan songs that represent the country.

“It was a good time to present the good sounds of Kigali to be heard by different people around the world. The BBC is heard all over the world, so that’s a good thing because people from elsewhere will be listening to Rwandan music by different artists.

“It’s good for me, but it’s also good for all of us because the playlist has a lot of songs from different artists, so it’s not just about me. I have put together a playlist that has all kinds of sounds from my home and they are crossing the border, ”Kayihura said.

This 20 song playlist contains only two songs by Kayihura and two songs he has been in, while the rest are also from different artists of different genres.

Other songs on his playlist include ‘King Kong’ by Pro Zed, ‘Amakosi’ by Ish Kevin, ‘Zoli’ by Nel, ‘Kantona’ by DJ Pyfo, ‘Ye Ayee’ by Buravan, ‘Away’ d ‘Ariel,’ Panga ‘by Confy,’ Anytime ‘by Mike among others.

The singer recently released an Extended Play dubbed “Zuba” which features eight songs. It released this second EP on August 6 and can now be streamed on all platforms.

“This is only on platforms capable of broadcasting and the comments so far show that people are actually broadcasting and taking their time to listen to every song on the EP, honestly the comments so far have been wonderful. “he said.

Mike Kayihura, 28, started singing at the age of 13 at Christ’s Church Choir in Gacuriro. He went to a music school in Ethiopia and then started making music as a career in 2014.

Africa 360 debuted on March 21 at 1Xtra Weekend Breakfast with DJ Remi Burgz featuring music from Aya Nakamura, Diamond Platnumz, Sha Sha, Tiwa Savage and others. Each week, Africa 360 invites leading artists and DJs to organize a playlist from their country. The first episode aired on March 22 with Nigerian Grammy winner Wizkid.
