Wolfgang AmadeusMozart

Mozart was Vienna’s darling around 1785 and audiences expected everything he composed. This admiration did not last until the 19th century, however, when the Romantics wanted more drama than most of his charming and seemingly innocent music could provide. With the exception of his Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor (K. 466) which was so much classical-era dramatic romanticism that Beethoven performed it regularly and composed cadenzas for it, as did Brahms and Clara Schumann. and others. Even classically trained jazz pianist Keith Jarrett recorded it, and this recording is today’s noon to 2 p.m. masterpiece.
