GAYLE has canceled her 19-date North American tour so she can learn “how to be an adult”.
The ‘abcdefu’ hitmaker was due to kick off the ‘Avoiding College’ race on October 8 in Oklahoma, however, she has offered refunds to those who had tickets as she doesn’t feel mentally ready for what a full tour entails .
The 18-year-old pop star is expected to perform at several festivals yet.
In a statement on her Instagram story, she said: “Hi everyone, I am canceling my tour which starts next month. Thank you to everyone who purchased tickets. This really means the world to me. You will be refunded and I hope to see you at these shows next year.
“I am learning to become an adult and to live this new life to the best of my ability.”
And she teased that she has new music in the works.
GAYLE added, “I love it so much and try to do it the best I can. I will continue to play festivals and work on new music.
The American star has already received support from fellow teenage pop star Olivia Rodrigo, 19.
She said last year: “Olivia [Rodrigo] DMed me which is crazy – I thought it was a fan account at first! She sent a super sweet message, where she was like, ‘Congratulations on your success, girl. You kill him.
“It meant a lot to me because we’re both young women doing pop music, so we’re going to compare a lot. On social media, people like to pit artists against each other, so it’s really great to share those moments with other artists. It’s almost like saying, “Hey, I’m successful, and I recognize that you’re successful too”. We can both be in this space without having to compete or bring each other down.
GAYLE’s tour cancellation comes after a number of artists recently postponed tours due to mental health, including Sam Fender and Shawn Mendes.
