A new year brought a new monthly mood for January – minimalism. After the chaos of the holidays and the past two years, downsizing felt like a good starting point for 2022. We turned away from clutter and landed on a clean approach, where monochromatic color palettes, Warm neutral tones, clean lines, and simplicity reign. By stripping it back to basics, only the most important elements remain, often resulting in some much-needed serenity. To tie this month’s features together, we’ve created a Spotify playlist – Cold minimalism – that you can play while returning to a minimalist-inspired design.
We visited the North End of Halifax, Nova Scotia, where architect Omar Gandhi has transformed a narrow, abandoned lot into his own family home. The OG house offers both a minimalist exterior and interior where warm wood and neutral finishes create a modern and comfortable home. Beautiful, unexpected details like an oak-clad skylight allow natural light to shine throughout.
Furniture brand Broste Copenhagen has just released a minimalist, modular shelving system that quickly and easily adapts to any space. Nobuko arrives flat and consists of only two types of components: shelves and legs. With four different leg heights to choose from, you can customize the size of a unit you want, as well as the number of shelves you need. Not only does the system provide spacious storage, but its smart design with offset legs makes it visually appealing.
