New Ben Bracken launched with a music playlist

Lidl has unveiled a Ben Bracken 18-Year-Old Single Malt Scotch Whiskey for St Andrew’s Day with a ‘Scotchify’ playlist to enjoy while you sip.

A toast to talent in Scotland’s music industry, Lidl’s ‘Scotchify’ playlist has been carefully curated based on whiskey expert Blair Bowman’s new malt tasting notes.

From Paolo Nutini to Pictish Trail and KT Tunstall to King Creosote, the playlist offers an immersive drinking experience for whiskey-loving Lidl shoppers as well as the perfect interactive Christmas gift for under £40.

Scottish Field columnist, whiskey expert Blair Bowman, founder of World Whiskey Day, got a taste of the new whiskey ahead of its launch.

Blair said: “This is a unique and very enjoyable single malt from Islay. With hints of sooty peat as opposed to traditional medicinal peat, this is a dram that will appeal to fans of peated whiskey while being approachable enough to appeal to those beginning to explore the category.

Lidl’s Scotchify Playlist digests the new whiskey’s tasting notes to pair aroma, palate and finish with tunes from the Scottish music scene. Composed of 14 tracks, the musical whiskey chord begins with a puff of sooty smoke (Pictish Trail – Into The Smoke) before beeswax and floral freshness (James Yorkston – Like Bees to Foxglove) and sweet honey from heather (The Jesus and Mary Chain – Just Like My Darling).

On the palate, the whiskey coats the mouth tingling the tongue (Elephant Sessions – Tingles) and brings notes of green leaves (King Creosote – Leaf Piece) and peat (Peatbog Faeries – Shifting Peat and Feet) before a wonderfully long and lingering (Lewis Capaldi – Fade).

Priced at £39.99, Ben Bracken single malt will join Lidl’s award-winning whiskey range across all Scottish stores alongside its wildly popular Abrachan Triple-Barrelled Blended Malt (42% ABV, 70cl), which comes with a special gift tube ahead of the festive season for just £16.99.
