PT Music Playlist: Top 25 Nigerian Songs of 2021

  1. Wizkid & Tems – Essence ft Justin Bieber

Released: April 2021

The song, released on August 13, 2021, made 26-year-old Temilade Openiyi, Tems, a real star. The track landed a nomination ahead of the 2022 Grammy Awards.

2. Tiwa Savage – Somebody’s Son (feat. Brandy)

Released: October 2021

4. Joeboy – Sip (alcohol)

Released: October 2021

Nigerian singer and songwriter Joseph Akinfenwa-Donus aka Joe Boy dropped this track in the last quarter of the year to the delight of Tiktokers around the world.

5. Lojay & Sarz – Monalisa

Release: September 2021

Lojay is recognized as one of the stars of the year 2021. The song “Monalisa” describes the beauty of Monalisa and the affection he has developed for her image. This song is mostly used by couples, especially during wedding ceremonies.

6. Ayra Starr – Bloody Samaritan

Released: August 2021

Proving that her escape was no accident, Ayra Starr scored important points with “Bloody Samaritan”, the first single from her debut album 19 & Dangerous.

Released: January 2021

Ayra Starr’s eponymous debut EP “Away” got people talking. Away shot the 19-year-old singer in the spotlight earlier in the year.

Release: September 2021

‘Crazy Things’ is the first single from Tem’s second project. After high profile collaborations with Drake, Wizkid and a signing on RCA Records, with “Crazy Things,” Tems clearly upped his level and called the blows.

10. Adekunle Gold – High ft Davido

Release: September 2021

“High” was Adekunle Gold’s third song in 2021 with one of Africa’s biggest Afrobeat stars, Davido.

Released: May 2021

Legendary Nigerian music artist, Olamide Adedeji released “Rock” which was a single from “UY Scuti”, Olamide’s new 10-track album named after one of Nigeria’s most famous red stars.

Released: October 2021

“Never Stopped” by budding star Buju has established itself as one of the biggest Nigerian hits of 2021.

13. Teni – Restlessness

Released: March 2021

Teniola Apata, known as Teni, released the song “hustle” from a recent project called “Wondaland”. The video, which was filmed in Lagos, inspired people to continue fighting for their daily bread through thick and thin.

14. CKay – Emiliana

Released: December 2021

Following his huge Love hit ‘Nwantiti’ which came out in 2019, Chukwu Ekweani aka C Kay ditched ‘Emiliana’ in 2021 and gained even more fans for himself.

15. Fave – Baby Riddim

Released: October 2021

Fave’s “Baby Riddim” is beautiful and soothing to the heart. Olamide also enlisted Fave on his album “UY Scuti”.

16. Joeboy – Focus

Released: February 2021.

The song is taken from Joeboy’s album, “Somewhere Between Beauty and Magic” which consists of 14 songs. The song rose to popularity with an accompanying dance on TikTok.

Released: July 2021

“Understand” is Omah Lay’s first solo release in 2021. In 2020, Omah Lay was cited by Apple Music and Audiomack as one of Africa’s most exciting new voices.

18. Ruger – Dior

Release: November 2021

“Dior” is one of the hits from Ruger’s recently released extended piece “Second Wave”. The new face of the record Mavin rose to prominence after his hit song “Bounce” caught the attention of Nigerian music fans.

19. Flavor – Levels

Released: October 2021

Nigerian king of the high life, Flavor took the music scene by storm in 2021 with a hit song, “Levels”, The song portrays the wealth that was displayed in Oba in July which became the topic of conversation of the city.

20. Larry Gaga Ft Phyno, Flavor and Theresa Onuorah – Egedege

Released: October 2021

“Egedege” is a collaboration of the best musicians from the East. The name Egedege comes from a local slang for wealth and bravery, which is why the dance is considered a cultural classic.

21. Portable – Zazu Zeh ft Olamide and Poco Lee

Released: December 2021

“Zazu Zeh” is a street buzz that turned Habeeb Okikiola from popular as Laptop to stardom. The song that was released a few days ago has already been played on major concert stages in high demand like Tiwa Savage, Wizkid among others.

22. Naira Marley – First time in America

Release: November 2021

“First Time In America” ​​is taken from Naira Marley’s upcoming album “GTTB”. The song, which gradually became a social media trend, inspired a tik tok challenge named after the song.

23. Goya Menor & DJ Neptunez – Ameno amapiano remix

Released: June 2021

Released: October 2021.

“Holy Father” was published by Adewale Mayowa professionally under the name Mayorkun. The song gained popularity on social media due to its dancing rhythm.

Release: November 2021

Booming musician Godson Ominibie, popular as 1da Baton, released the song ‘No Wahala’ which was produced by record breaking Blaise Beatz. The song is its first release for the year 2021.
