Sparks has started working on her next album.
The American art rock duo – made up of brothers Ron and Russell Mael – have teased fans that they are back in the studio to work on their follow-up to 2020’s ‘A Steady Drip, Drip, Drip’ and soundtrack of 2021 for the film ‘Annette’.
Along with a studio snap, the duo simply wrote on Instagram, “Studio update. #newsparksalbum.”
Keyboardist Ron, 76, has previously admitted the duo prefer the music they make now, compared to their first releases in the 70s.
He admitted: “I can’t say it wasn’t fun in the 70s to have people screaming in the audience.
“Musically, though, it’s more fun now. The fact that we’re still here is beyond surreal.”
Meanwhile, Sparks won Best Musical Film at the BandLab NME Awards earlier this year.
Edgar Wright’s ‘The Sparks Brothers’ film about the iconic duo beat ‘Billie Eilish: The World’s A Little Blurry’ and ‘Oasis Knebworth 1996’ to the crown.
Russell, 73, said in his video acceptance speech, “We are so honored to have NME give us the middle finger.
“Thank you to the great director Edgar Wright and the whole team who made this wonderful film.”
Edgar, who picked up the gong, said on stage: “Thank you to Ron and Russell Mael from Sparks.
“True icons, they’ve been in the business for 50 years and they’re not done yet, they’re still going. Here’s to the next 50 years of Sparks.
