The Bistro Awards have been rewarding, encouraging, nurturing and educating cabaret, jazz and comedy artists for 37 years. Susie Mosher will host the 37th annual Bistro Awards on May 16. Susie has been performing professionally since she was 16, when she appeared in the West Coast premiere of Godspell at the Old Globe Theatre.
Appearances in nightclubs, theater, television and film followed his “checkerboard path”. Some of her films include Lost Souls, View from the Top, It’s Pat, The Wedding Planner and Bear City 2. She has been seen on TV in Beverly Hills 90210, Snoops, Veronica’s Closet, The L Word and Nurse Jackie.
Susie finally achieved her childhood dream of being on Broadway when she was cast as hairspray, playing Prudy Pingleton for the final two years of the show’s incredible six-year run.
Susie hosts her own weekly variety show, The Lineup with Susie Mosher, at New York’s iconic Birdland every Tuesday night. Bistro Awards reviewer Penelope Thomas wrote of The Lineup, “Susie Mosher is a damn good host…. Honestly, I would see her no matter who her guests are. Mosher is true show business and ready to roll with anything.

New York’s new hotspot for intimate dining and extraordinary music – will continue its special partnership with the Jazz Foundation of America. The unique concert series, which will take place every Wednesday in April with performances at 7:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., will benefit the JFA Musicians’ Fund, which provides financial assistance to musicians in crisis. The series will feature guitarist Russell Malone Quartet (April 6), vibraphonist Stefon Harris (April 13), saxophonist and singer Camille Thurman (April 20) and pianist Sullivan Fortner (April 27). Tickets are $45, which includes a $15 food and beverage credit. Chelsea Table + Stage is located at 152 West 26and Street.
100% of ticket sales will support JFA artists and provide life changing assistance to hundreds of jazz and blues musicians struggling due to illness, old age, lack of work, natural disaster and devastating effects of the pandemic. The series will feature an exciting lineup of leading jazz voices. Past performers include Brandee Younger, Donald Harrison, Cyrus Chestnut and Raul Midón.

American composer and pianist Calvin Jones never thought he would find himself in the middle of a war zone but at 5 a.m. on Thursday February 24, 2022, he and his wife Inga, from Ukraine, were woken up by loud sirens and bombs exploding around Kyiv, Ukraine and close enough to their apartment to make them react immediately. Suspecting the worst, they both frantically stuffed what they could into their cars while gathering news that Russia was bombing their country. The two quickly loaded the car and began their dangerous and arduous journey to the border where they would find refuge with a friend in Bucharest, Romania. Spending a few days there to pull themselves together, they grabbed a replacement digital piano in Bucharest, strapped it to the roof of the car and headed to Montenegro – while spending much of their time helping the others to evacuate and help those who remained, including the elderly. , orphans, carers, musicians and others. “The situation is dire. We are desperately trying to provide resources to those stuck in Ukraine and to help as many people as possible get out and get to safety,” says Calvin.
Calvin and his wife Inga have been married for 8 years. They met during a Calvin tour of Ukraine in 2012-2013 and later married in 2014. Calvin has toured the world with some of the world’s most renowned orchestras and performed for thousands of people during his long career of more than 30 years. During the trying days and the arduous journey to escape, Jones recalled a very special moment in 2017 when he recorded a Ukrainian national song, “Shchedryk” (Carol of the Bells), with an orchestra Russian of 55 pieces. With the importance of such a collaboration between the two countries, especially now, he realized that the song could mean something beyond anything he could have imagined. It was in St. Petersburg, Russia in July 2017 that Jones worked with the 55-piece Russian Taurida International Symphony Orchestra to record a dozen songs he had composed or arranged, including the Ukrainian song “Shchedryk.” (Carol of the Bells), which is now being published.
“The collaboration between the two countries has been remarkable. It was a young group and we were together in peace and unity. I hope this song becomes representative of how two very different groups of people can come together through music. Here we have the Russian Orchestra playing a national song of Ukraine. What could be more moving and powerful right now? We may not know what our future is, but we do know that music can bring people together. I hope this song does just that,” Jones said.
Last week, Jones released ‘Shchedryk’ (Carol of the Bells) for the very first time and will donate 100% of the proceeds to two charities helping the victims of the invasion; Lots of love and Kyiv Musical Mission.
