UK Christmas Poll “All I Want for Christmas” by Mariah Carey – Music News

Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas” reigns supreme as the UK’s favorite party song, winning the title ahead of “Fairytale of New York” by The Pogues & Kirsty MacColl and “Last Christmas” by Wham.

The votes were cast by members of the UK public who visited the Magic Radio 100% Christmas Experience, which stopped in different parts of the country to spread the holiday cheer and showcase Magic Radio which goes 100% Christmas until midnight on Boxing Day.

The specially designed Christmas truck has been on tour since November and stops in London, Sheffield, Liverpool, Manchester, Nottingham, Glasgow and Birmingham. In each town, Mariah Carey’s Christmas pop classic “All I Want for Christmas” was chosen as the number one hit, garnering 33% of all votes cast.

The festive classic ‘Fairytale of New York’ received 12% of the vote and came second overall, although Glasgow and Sheffield both voted for Wham’s ‘Last Christmas’ in their second place.

As the big day approached, Magic Radio also asked guests what their favorite Christmas songs were. Below are selected quotes:

Shane Filan from Westlife – “Favorite song, I’m going to have to go with ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’, Shakin Stevens, what a song. It makes me so happy and so in the Christmas mood”

Ed Sheeran – “I think my favorite Christmas song would be The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl ‘Fairytale of New York’ and I would say this because I love a merry Christmas song, I love to dance and sing along to Shakin ‘Stevens or Elton’s “Step into Christmas,” but what I love about “Fairytale of New York” is that it always makes you dance and feel happy, but it’s actually a pretty miserable song. the songs sound happy, but they have that dark undertone. ”

Westlife’s Kian Egan – “So I’m going to pick the one I thought Mark might have actually picked, Mariah Carey, ‘All I Want For Christmas’, because it’s just a classic and you know, I don’t think so. not that we’ll ever have a Christmas without this song in our lives. And obviously we love Mariah, we’ve worked with her a long, long time ago now.

Gary Barlow – “I think it must be ‘White Christmas’, it makes me so gooey. It’s brilliant. It makes me feel 100% Christmas.
